The short version. We collect what we need to run your assessment and comparison. Your partner can't see your answers until you've both finished. To create your comparison, your answers are sent to an AI service. We don't sell your information or show you ads, and you can delete your account at any time.

Who we are

Enjoy Retirement Together ("we," "us") is the companion website to the book Enjoy Retirement Together. This policy covers this website and the couples assessment on it.

What we collect

Information you give us

  • Account details: your name, email address, and password. Passwords are stored in encrypted (hashed) form, so we can't see them.
  • Your partner's email address: when you invite your partner. We use it only to send the invitation and related reminders.
  • Your assessment answers: what you write about each of the ten dimensions. Depending on what you choose to share, these answers may include information about your health, spiritual beliefs, family, and relationships.
  • Messages: what you send through the contact form.

Information collected automatically

  • Cookies needed to run the site: a session cookie that keeps you logged in and, if you choose "Remember me," a cookie that keeps you logged in for up to 30 days.
  • Basic server logs: such as IP address, browser type, and pages requested, kept by our hosting provider for security and troubleshooting.
  • Spam protection: our contact form may use Google reCAPTCHA, which collects device and usage information under Google's Privacy Policy.

How we use it

  • To run your account, your assessment, and your comparison
  • To send your partner's invitation and service emails (such as password resets)
  • To reply when you contact us
  • To send occasional updates about the book and site, only if you opt in. Every update email includes an unsubscribe link.
  • To keep the site secure and working

We do not sell your personal information, share it for advertising, or use your assessment answers for marketing.

What your partner sees

You and your partner each answer privately. Neither of you can see the other's answers until you have both finished. After that, you both see the comparison, which is based on both sets of answers.

How AI is used

To create your comparison, your and your partner's assessment answers are sent to Anthropic, an AI service provider. The AI provider processes the answers to generate the comparison and returns it to us. We send only what is needed to create the comparison. AI-generated comparisons can contain mistakes. They are a starting point for conversation, not professional advice.

Who we share it with

We share information only with service providers that help us run the site, and only as needed:

  • IONOS: website hosting, database, and email
  • Anthropic: generating comparisons
  • Google reCAPTCHA: contact-form spam protection

We may also disclose information if required by law or to protect the safety of any person.

Health information

The Health and Physical Activity dimensions ask about your wellbeing and how you stay active. Whatever you write there may be considered health information under some state laws, including Washington's My Health My Data Act. We collect it only to create your comparison, share it only with the service providers listed above for that purpose, and never sell it. You can ask us to delete it at any time. You don't have to include medical details to complete the assessment.

How long we keep it

We keep your information while your account is open. If you delete your account, we delete your account details and assessment answers within 30 days, except where we must keep something to comply with the law. Server logs and backups are cleared on our hosting provider's normal schedule.

If you and your partner have completed a comparison and one of you deletes their account, that person's answers are deleted, and the shared comparison is removed for both of you.

Your choices and rights

  • See and download your information (use "Export My Data" on your dashboard, or contact us)
  • Correct your account information
  • Delete your account and answers
  • Unsubscribe from update emails at any time
  • Withdraw consent to processing of your health information

To make a request, email us at the address below. We'll respond within 30 days. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under state law, and we will honor them.

Do Not Track: we don't track you across other websites, so we don't change our practices in response to browser "Do Not Track" signals.

Security

We use encrypted connections (HTTPS), store passwords in hashed form, and limit access to stored data. No system is perfectly secure, and we can't guarantee that information will never be accessed without permission. If a breach affects your information, we'll notify you as required by law.

Age requirement

This site is for adults 18 and older. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If we learn we have, we'll delete it.

Changes to this policy

If we make material changes, we'll update the effective date above and notify registered users by email before the changes take effect.
