The Basics

It's a book and a companion website for couples who want to design the retirement life they'll share. Each partner completes the same ten-dimension assessment privately. Then you see a side-by-side comparison of where your visions already align and where you need to talk.

Any committed couple planning a future together: married or not, in your 50s and just starting to plan, in your 60s and making the transition, or already retired and finding your plans need adjusting.

No. It's the conversation that should come before anyone runs the numbers. Your financial professional helps with the money. This helps the two of you decide what the money is for: where you'll live, how you'll spend your days, and who you'll spend them with. Nothing here is investment, tax, or legal advice.

No. It's a structured way to talk about what you each want. If conflict is affecting daily life, please talk with a licensed counselor. If you or someone you know is in crisis in the U.S., call or text 988.

The Assessment

  1. One of you signs up and invites the other by email.
  2. Each of you completes the assessment privately.
  3. When you've both finished, you get your comparison.
  4. You use it, and the book's conversation framework, to talk things through and build a one-page plan you both agree on.

The Retirement Together framework covers ten dimensions in five areas of life:

  • Inner Life: Emotional Wellbeing, Spiritual Wellbeing
  • Relationships: Social Connections, Family & Intimate Relationships
  • Purpose: Work & Contribution, Skills & Capabilities
  • Body: Health, Physical Activity
  • Place & Play: Living Environment, Recreation

For each one you answer three questions: Where am I now? What would ideal look like? What would have to change to get there?

Three questions for each of ten dimensions. Most of the value comes from thinking honestly, so take your time. You can save your progress and come back whenever you like.

Not until you've both finished. Answering privately keeps either of you from softening your answers to match the other's. Once you're both done, you both see the comparison.

Where your visions naturally align, where they differ, and which differences are worth a real conversation. It's generated by AI from both sets of answers, so treat it as a starting point for talking, not a verdict. It can make mistakes.

That's common, and it's exactly what the assessment is designed to bring out. The goal isn't to want the same things. It's to make room for both of you to flourish while staying connected. The book covers the four most common types of misalignment and practical ways to honor both partners' needs.

Yes. You can complete your own assessment and invite your partner whenever you're ready. The comparison needs both sets of answers, so it will be ready once your partner finishes.

Privacy

You, your partner (after you've both finished), and the service providers we use to run the site, only as needed. To create your comparison, your answers are sent to an AI service. We don't sell your information or use your answers for marketing. See our Privacy Policy for details.

Yes, at any time. Deleting your account deletes your answers. If you and your partner already have a comparison, it is removed for both of you. You can also download your data from your dashboard first.

No. The Health and Physical Activity dimensions ask how you want to feel and stay active. Share only what you're comfortable with. Medical details aren't needed.

The Book

No, the assessment works on its own. The book explains the thinking behind each dimension and walks you through the conversation and the blueprint, so the two work best together.
